Frequently Asked Questions

Are you online only or do you offer face to face therapy too?

I do both! My office is based on King Street - just off market square in Nottingham. Online sessions are ran via MS Teams. If you’re somebody who travels a lot for work or have other irregular schedules that make it difficult to stick to face to face each week, you’re welcome to mix and match between face to face and online/telephone.

Do I have to have a certain amount of sessions?

Nope. If you get a couple of sessions in and you believe that I’m not the therapist for you, then no sweat - it happens!

Do I have to have weekly sessions?

I usually recommend that new clients start with weekly sessions for at least the first month. This helps build momentum and gives us a chance to establish a strong therapeutic relationship from the outset.

That said, I completely understand that everyone’s budget and availability are different. If fortnightly sessions are more manageable for you, that’s absolutely fine.

As therapy progresses, many clients who’ve been working with me for a while or have reached certain goals choose to reduce the frequency of sessions — moving to fortnightly, monthly, or even ad hoc check-ins. This is something we can always review together over time.

What if I don’t have one big thing that happened to me?

You don’t need to have a hidden trauma skeleton in your closet, or be a swanky LA wellness guru to go to therapy.

Maybe you’ve already tried a few things to feel better but still find yourself stuck in the same cycles. Maybe you’re confused about why you react the way you do in certain situations, or you just want space to talk through your life with someone who doesn’t already have an opinion about you.

Therapy is for anyone who’s curious about therapy. If you’re wondering whether it might help — that’s already a good enough reason to give it a go.

How long will it take until I'm fixed?

Ah — the big question. First things first: you are not a broken washing machine. You’re a human being. Maybe you’ve been through things that have left you feeling broken, but that doesn’t make you defective. Reacting to your environment and experiences isn’t a failure — it’s human.

That said, it’s important to know that therapy isn’t a passive process. You could come every week for three years and talk and talk — and while being heard is powerful, the real shifts often happen outside the therapy room. It’s about taking what you’ve explored, reflecting on it, and gradually trying out new ways of thinking, feeling or behaving in everyday life.

For some people, a few months of therapy is enough to get what they need. Others find value in the longer-term process — using therapy as a space for ongoing growth, challenge, and self-development. There’s no right or wrong length of time. It’s your journey, and we can navigate it at your pace.

Is it a confidential service?

Mostly. There are some instances where I would be obligated to share information with social services/the police/your GP. Things like if there were any child safeguarding issues, you disclosed you’d been involved in act of terrorism or if I were to become concerned that you were an immediate risk to yourself or anyone else. We will have a really good chat through the full confidentiality policy in your first session so you feel comfortable.
